The New Brunswick Investment Management Corporation (NBIMC) is the trustee and investment manager for the pension assets of over 50,000 members of the Public Service, Teachers’, and Judges’ defined benefit pension plans. Located in Fredericton, NBIMC is the largest institutional investment manager in Atlantic Canada with assets under management of approximately $9.1 billion at March 31, 2011.

George Long, Senior Portfolio Manager – Private Equity, will be providing an overview of the Atlantic Opportunities Private Equity Fund – a separate investment portfolio created to evaluate local investment opportunities. The CyberSocial Committee is also pleased to present a free afternoon workshop session starting at 1:00 pm:  Academia /Industry Research Partnership Workshop

The Workshop will feature Kelly Ashfield from the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Office of Research Services explaining the support mechanisms available to foster industry collaboration with UNB.  Funding to support industry collaborations with universities and colleges will be outlined by Richard Isnor of NSERC, Ian Baird of MITACS and Katie Baird of ACOA.

Dr. Ken Kents, UNB, will provide an overview of UNB’s Faculty of Computer Science and discuss successful research partnerships; highlighting the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) Atlantic, including the Next Generation Java Virtual Machine supporting Multi-core Processing. This development of international scope will deliver a ground breaking enabling technology thatis expected to pave the way for a new wave of high performance computing for Internet services.

Le Comité Cybersocial est également heureux de présenter un atelier en après-midi à 13h00 pour présenter les progrès en cours au Centre IBM d’études avancées à l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick. Le Directeur du Centre, Dr Ken Kent, présentera une mise à jour sur l’ambitieuse collaboration entre UNB et d’IBM pour la Machine Java Virtuelle Nouvelle Génération, pouvant soutenir les processeurs multi-coeurs.

Ce développement est de portée internationale et offrira une évolution technologique  unique permettant d’ouvrir la voie à une nouvelle ère de l’informatique haute performance pour les services Internet. Ceci est très important pour l’industrie et elle se déroule ici même au Nouveau-Brunswick.

Notre atelier de l’après-midi mettra également en vedette Kelly Ashfield auprès du bureau des services de recherche UNB expliquer les mécanismes de soutien disponibles pour favoriser la collaboration de l’industrie avec les activités de recherche de l’UNB et les autres organismes de recherche. Katie Baird, agente de développement économique avec le Fonds d’innovation Atlantique APECA-NB fournira quelques informations complémentaires sur ce programme en collaboration avec la présentation d’UNB.

Le financement nécessaire pour appuyer les collaborations avec l’industrie seront détaillées par Richard Isnor du CRSNG et Ian Baird de MITACS. Ces scénarios sont encouragés et conséquemment UNB a été très actif dans la Communauté du Grand Moncton.

Les participants à l’évènement sont également appelés à prendre une “le micro pour une minute” pour annoncer ce que vous considérez d’intérêt pour nos membres.

Martin has been in the IT industry for over 20 years. He has worked for with many small organizations in the IT industry which have grown and sold to public traded companies. Some of these companies:

2: BelTek Sold to High Jump
3: Kleinmundo sold to Thomson Reuters

This has led him to travel to over 25 different countries working for fortune 500 organizations in the Legal, Distribution, and Manufacturing markets.

His passion is both business and technology and to how they relate to each other. He is currently getting his PMP certification through St. Mary’s University and has recently just come back from Peru doing the Inca trail and living in the Amazon forest for 2 weeks.

We’ve updated the site to better support you and your participation.

Each member will be get an account over the next month which will allow you access to the site to post, message, and blog information about your company, projects, and anything else of interest to the Moncton Tech community.

And remember, we’ll see you every 2nd Wednesday of the month at our social event for drinks, networking, and interesting presentations by your own members.
